Woodland Promotes Pink to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

During the month of October at Woodland, pink sports attire can be found on fields, pool decks and courts. The fall sports teams contribute some aspect of their uniforms to breast cancer awareness month. This includes incorporating the color pink.

The girls’ volleyball team is one of the main contributors during their pink game. The volleyball players are decked out in pink from their hair bows to their shoelaces. The team sells elastic bracelets, t-shirts cupcakes, cake and various other pink food items. A pink ball is also played with during the game. This year flowers will also be given to every breast cancer survivor whom attends the game. All the money raised from the pink volleyball game will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Girls soccer is also having a pink game this year hosted by senior, Erika Tyrell. Tyrell is hosting this pink game as her senior project. The team will wear pink shirts and donate the money raised to a charity.

Girls swimming, along with the whole NVL (swimming), is able to buy pink t shirts. You can see the girls sporting their breast cancer awareness t shirts at NVL’s.

The football team also contributes during the whole month of October by wearing pink bands and a pink sticker on their helmets. Some of the players also add pink laces to their cleats.

Woodland not only has a lot of school spirit, but is always willing to do good for other great causes as well.
