Fine Arts Friday Featuring Alyssa Korzon

530069_3990688058546_730283003_nSenior Alyssa Korzon has allowed the Fine Arts Department to define her. With the program, she has grown and matured and it has now helped shape the future for this bright senior.

Freshmen year, Korzon had little knowledge about the world of acting. When her aunt brought her to see Legally Blonde on Broadway, she was inspired. But she was unsure of what to do with this inspiration until she decided to take Acting 1 at Woodland Regional High School.

“When I saw the play, I was influenced to start acting,” said Korzon, “but acting 1 is when I gained confidence and really started to enjoy acting.”

From that moment on, Korzon has involved herself in more than just the theatre at Woodland. She’s taken concert choir, art skills, photo one, advanced acting, creative drama, and stagecraft.

With all of the skills that she acquired in the Fine Arts programs, she could have excelled in any department. But she found her niche in the plays that the Woodland Drama club puts on every fall. She has played main roles in Woodland’s Into the Woods, Stage Door, and just recently, she played the fairy in A Midsummer’s Nights Dream.  Korzon’s favorite role was playing Terry Randall in Stage Door.

“She (Terry Randall) was motivated and she wasn’t afraid to push herself and the others around her,” stated Korzon. “She never gave up and she always stood up for herself.”

Like Randall, Korzon hopes to live out her dream in similar ways so that she too can be successful.

Korzon has been so affected by the arts at Woodland that she made the decision to include the drama club in her senior project.

“My senior project is focused on raising money for drama club,” added Korzon, ” and I’ve had two fundraisers so far raising over six hundred-dollars  and I’m planning more fundraisers for the future.”

With the money that Korzon and the club raised through a car wash and a tag sale, the Woodland Drama Club was able to purchase more material for this years show making it even more entertaining.

The productions have helped Korzon become an amazingly talented actress. They have taught her to be a leader, to have confidence, and to always keep trying.

“I am not afraid of criticism,” said Korzon, ” I always want to improve and get better.”

The stage and her cast mates have become her home and family. Excelling at memorizing lines and being dramatic, she is on her way to be quite the actress. However, she knows that there are areas that she still needs to work on to be the best that she can be.

“It’s difficult for me to push through rehearsals, to push through the lack of sleep, and push myself out of my own comfort zone,” said Korzon.

All of these factors help shape an actress to one day be Broadway ready which is what Korzon hopes to finally achieve.

In college, Korzon is looking to major in theatre education to further pursue her dreams. Her headstrong attitude to take on any challenge will be greatly missed at Woodland. And not only will she be missed by the Woodland Fine Arts, she will miss them as well.

“The Woodland stage feels like home to me,” said Korzon, “I’ve accomplished so much on that stage and some of the highlights of my life were on that stage.”
