Things To Do During Summer

As highschoolers enter the homestretch of another school year, they look forward to the newness of summer, sleeping in, and spending time with friends. The worries of school and the qualms of stress drift away as their young minds switch gears to beach days and working nights. For many, the question is what to do with all of that free time. So here’s a list of things going on in Connecticut during June and July, as well as some fun and cost effective day-trip ideas.

For more information on any of the following events and more, check out  36 Things to Do in Connecticut by CT Visit.

Kick starting this list is river rafting. Clarke Outdoors in West Cornwall offers a fun experience for groups to float 10 miles down the Housatonic River.

River rafting not for you? No worries, try paddleboarding at several spots like Adventure Mystic, New England Water Sports in Branford, Scoot & Paddle in Milford, or Black Hall Outfitters in Westbrook and Old Lyme.

If the water or general ground are too boring, there are plenty of obstacle courses up in the trees at Empower Adventure Park in South Windsor or Tree Trails Adventures in Mystic.

For everyone out there that enjoys a good pampering, treat yourself to a well-deserved visit at one of Connecticut’s Top Spas. “CTVisit” lists a variety of spas offering rejuvenating treatments including facials, massages, mud wraps and more.

If you’re looking for something outdoors, but less active than extreme physical activity, take a walk in one of Connecticut’s stunning parks, like the Pardee Rose Gardens in Hamden, Elizabeth Park in West Hartford or Mohegan Park in Norwich.

Nothing says summer like a sweet and refreshing treat! Whether you prefer classic cones or sundaes, discover them all along the Connecticut Ice Cream Trail.

In addition to ice cream trails, Connecticut has a fair share of locations to plan a foodie date, with a Pizza Trail and Chocolate Trail.

Have a sweet and celeb-inspired experience at The Sugar Factory, award-winning steaks at David Burke Prime Steakhouse, the nation’s best pizza at Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria, and sample Asian cuisine of all kinds at TAO Asian Bistro and Lounge, in Connecticut’s very own casinos.

Race go karts at RPM Raceway in Stamford, On Track Karting in Wallingford, or Supercharged in Montville.

Looking for something on the cheaper side? Enjoy family movie night under the stars at drive-in theaters such as Mansfield Drive-In, Southington Drive-In or Pleasant Valley Drive-In in Barkhamsted.

Craving cotton candy, caramel covered apples, or deep fried oreos, you’re in luck. There are plenty of festivals and carnivals coming to local CT towns this summer.

First up is the Little Poland Festival in New Britain on June 5th.

“Experience a taste of Europe in New Britain’s unique Little Poland district. Enjoy live music, mascots, kids’ activities, leaping folk dancers, ethnic food, arts and crafts, and shopping.”
