Erin’s Closet: School Attire

Mixing preppy and business casual is the theme of this outfit. Madras, the pattern on the headband, was considered the epitome of prep in the 60’s. You would often see men wearing full madra suits that were referred to as ‘bleeding madras’ because of the use of the print. This simple madra print headband is one accessory for this ensemble in order to help bring out the preppy side.
To bring out the business casual side, leather flats are added to the outfit.Tory Burch, a designer known because of her classic pieces, created these black Reva ballet flats that can easily be dressed up for a formal event or simply worn to school, like the intended purpose of this outfit. The minimal amount of accessories is substituted with the J.Crew factory jewel-collar oxford shell. Its jeweled collar adds the right amount of sparkle without overdoing it.
Paired over the shell is a school boy blazer (J.Crew) in navy. Blazers have been spotted on fraternity boys to make themselves look more professional. This piece is fitted and adds a bit of formality compared to the vibrant colors of the headband.
Finishing the outfit, a plum colored scallop trim skirt pulls everything together bringing out hints of plum in the madras headband. This scholastic outfit will make you the center of attention in your debate class and really help your ideas be heard.
