Athlete Spotlight – Will Brooks

Junior Will Brooks has played football since he was nine years old. He has fallen in love with what the game means to him.

“It’s a great time to just go all out and knock someone’s head off,” said Brooks.

Brooks started out with flag football then transitioned to playing tackle football for the Woodland Jr. Hawks. He went back to flag before starting his high school career.

Back in March, Brooks won many different awards at the Naugatuck Valley League Lifting Competition. He benched 285 pounds and power cleaned 265 pounds, winning first place in both events.

He earned 1st team All-NVL honors for Weightlifting.

“It was nice to have all of my hard work finally pay off,” said Brooks.

Brooks started playing because of his big brother, Ben Brooks.

“I would go to his games and once I saw him run people over and make awesome plays, it made me want to get in,” said Brooks.

His plans for playing college football are uncertain, but his love for the game is not.

“If the opportunity is right and I love the school, then I would probably play,” said Brooks.

One of his goals this year is to achieve the 1st team All-NVL football team. Brooks is excited for the seasons ahead of him and is ready for any challenges he faces
