Internship Spotlight: Vanessa Krasnicki

Vanessa Krasnicki is not only a high school senior, but also an employee at Forster Precision Tool in Seymour, Connecticut. Before Krasnicki became an official employee at the manufacturing company, she completed an internship there.

“Forster Precision Tool is a manufacturing company. It is also combined with fishreels,” Krasnicki said.

orster Precision makes many tools, including reels for fishing rods. Krasnicki has learned a lot of quality control throughout her time at this company; she has also learned a lot about the parts and how to build. She takes raw material and puts them onto different machines, and then she makes sure they are good quality products.

Forster Precision Tool is a very large facility with two different areas. One area is the shop where all of the big machines are running and where a lot of manufacturing takes place. The second area is for bench work where no machines are, where all of the parts go after they are made.

Krasnicki took a manufacturing class at Woodland and decided she wanted to take the internship at Forster Precision to see if she wanted to pursue manufacturing in the future. She already had her senior project done and did not need to do an internship, but she wanted to learn more about STEM and engineering.

“I just took the manufacturing class at school, so I wanted to get into it more and see if I really liked it,” said Krasnicki “That is how I was going to know what I wanted to do for college”.

After her internship, Krasnicki decided she wants to major in mechanical engineering and possibly minoring in manufacturing at Central Connecticut State University. She interned at Forster Precision from October to November and got offered a job there shortly after.

“Everything I have learned, especially the hands-on skills, are really important,” Krasnicki said.

Krasnicki has taken away a lot from working there but the most important thing she learned was the hands on skills. Since she is going into mechanical engineering, she will need to use those skills in the future as well as knowing how to design, construct and machine different things or tools.
