Summer 2024 Favorites

As the most perfect time of the year is arriving, Woodland students are quickly drawing up bucket lists that will inevitably never be completed, and making plans so that everyday of Summer 2024 a memory is made. Everyone’s summer is different, especially for students of different ages. Seniors’ summers compared to freshmen’s are more sad, while juniors’ summers are likely to be more stressful than sophomores.

In terms of what seniors’ do on the off day Bryce DiGiovanna loves to play golf which has increasingly become more popular over the Woodland population. He has a variety of \\ people with whom he enjoys golfing.

“My grandfather is a member at the Waterbury Country Club. I love to spend time playing with my dad, grandfather, cousin, and my friends.”

Many senior boys are often playing golf too. It is easy to find beautiful locations and friends to play with.

During the summer, juniors will be planning college visits as they have put it off all year, researching majors, even possibly taking college courses for extra credits before school begins again.

Junior Corinne Melisky has already planned for this summer. “I’m going to South Carolina the first week of July to tour four schools.”

Finding the right college is what most worry about, but students can’t forget to also make the most of their time with their friends this summer.

Besides preparing for school, many Woodland students spend their days at one of the state’s surrounding beaches. Melisky says her favorite beach to visit is Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island because, “The area is nice and the beach is very pretty.” Areas like these in Rhode Island are pleasurable, but not ideal to those who cannot drive.

For some younger students, with less ways of getting around during the summer, they rely on local activities to do. Sophomore, soon to be junior, Avery DiGiovanna has a productive summer no matter what. “I go for runs around the block which helps keep me active.” Along with attending pre-season practice for soccer with her teammates, and going out to eat or grabbing a treat from Starbucks post practice.

Other popular activities to take part in during the summer are attending the Beacon Falls Carnival, grabbing ice cream from Rich Farms in Oxford, or The Big Dipper in Prospect.

Pickleball has also become a very popular sport that is fun to play for everyone. With courts in Prospect and Beacon Falls, it is very convenient to play with friends. Freshman, Hanna Molleur has taken a liking to pickle ball,

“It is really fun and easy to learn. I love playing with my parents and my uncle. I also love that it is free to do.”

Pickleball is a universal sport for those who cannot play tennis or more mobility sports. With friends and cute outfits, pickleball is the perfect summer hobby.

Summer is the most enjoyable time, so have no regrets about what you choose to do with your time.
