Captain Feature – Jenna Chicano

Basketball star for nine years and counting, Jenna Chicano is excited to be one of the captains for this year’s Woodland Girls Basketball team. Ever since she was seven years old, Chicano attended her sister Jillian Chicano’s games and fell in love with the sport.

“I remember going to my sister’s games and watching the excitement which is when I started getting into it,” said Chicano

Being captain has always been on her mind.

“Becoming captain has definitely been a goal of mine, especially since my sister used to play in high school. She even had the same number,” said Chicano “So I decided to sort of carry on the legacy. It gives me some motivation and something to play for.”

Never backing down from a challenge, Chicano knows what being a captain entails.

“Captain is that big step up in a leadership role and it’s an honor to fill it.” said Chicano.

During the upcoming season, Chicano is looking forward to not only the playing aspect but also getting to know the incoming team members.

“We do have a lot of young talent and I want to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the team and make sure everyone feels confident with their role.”

As a senior, this will be Chicanos last basketball season at Woodland. Although she is still undecided, she will continue playing throughout college.

“I’m planning on doing club basketball wherever I go to college,” said Chicano.
