Album Review Tate McRae: “Think Later”

Tate McRae is an amazing young artist with much charisma and light with her music. From her top hits like “That Way” and “Uh Oh”, her music is astounding. On December 8th, Mcrae released an album entitled, “Think Later,” which is her second studio album. The album consists of fourteen new songs, including the earlier released songs “Greedy” and “Exes” which have been highly popular on TikTok. Her record label, RCA Records, and Tate have really put out a spectacular album full of fun and relatable songs.

This is not the first time her songs have gained fame and popularity amongst listeners. Tate started her music career on YouTube producing music and posting it on her channel. She was soon recognized by thousands of people making her an overnight sensation. Multiple videos have gotten over forty million views on YouTube which is insane for a teen who just wants to put some of her creative work out into the world.

“Greedy” is a sassy and confident song by McRae. The song shows the empowerment of being a girl and that she simply doesn’t care what people think or have to say. Greedy is one of my favorite releases on the album as it has catchy lyrics and a relatable background.

The title track “Think Later” is a fun and hype song that channels many different emotions throughout the song. I really enjoyed listening to the song and it was one of my favorites on the entire album. Additionally, other songs like “Cut my hair” and “Run for the Hills” are a favorite of mine.

Some Woodland Regional students have enjoyed listening to her music over the years and were very excited for the release of McRae’s sophomore album.

“Tate’s music for me is an outlet. It is not like you listen to her songs and break down, you kind of get mad,” says Freshman, Gia Salvatore.

She really enjoys Tate’s music, but also believes that the album isn’t relatable enough to her.

“The lyrics don’t hit as hard as some of her previous songs and are a little repetitive.”

Some of the songs really stuck out to Salvatore as she expressed some of her favorite songs that she had released.

“My favorite song from the album is ‘Grave’,” says Salvatore.

Grave is a more somber song and is definitely more relatable as it isn’t as upbeat as some of her other songs. The lyrics in her songs are really important to many different people including Salvatore. For me, the slower songs aren’t my favorite [but] I still enjoy listening to them on a daily basis.

From the top to the bottom of the album, every song has lyrics for anyone. I hope for the future that she continues to release music to her community. I am always thankful for her music and especially thankful for this album.
