Wearing Spikes and Crossing the Finish Line First

The 2023-2024 school year is runner for Woodland Cross Country, Faye Carnemolla’s fourth season running. She began taking it seriously once she got into the high school, and has plans to continue in college.

Carnemolla credits Jeffery Lownds and Chris Misuraca, her coaches, for guiding her to where she is today.

“They’ve encouraged me to work hard since the very first practice I ran with Woodland, and over time their confidence in me has helped me have more confidence in myself. Their attitude towards the team and the sport has helped me develop the work ethic needed to get better,” said Carnemolla.

Not only her coaches, but also her teammates help Carnemolla follow through with her athletic career.

“Coming in freshman year, a lot of the upperclassmen were good about making the team feel inclusive and close-knit, and I quickly made friends.”

As a group, the team has many memories that they have made together.

“Our team trip to Stew Leonards after the first meet of our season was my favorite; this was where we really got to know each other as a team.”

It is clear Carnemolla values the relationships she’s gained through cross country, as she notes the bonds she’s gained with members on the team.

“One of my favorite things about cross country is how close the girls on the team are, a result of having such a small team.”
