Beacon Falls Library Teen Programs

The Beacon Falls Library has been intertwined with kids of Beacon Falls since elementary school; however, when these kids turn into teenagers the librarians begin to see less of them at the library. What a lot of teens do not know is that the library has a Teen Advisory Board that specially crafts programs and activities for teens to participate in throughout the week. Kerri Vardon is one of the librarians that runs these programs.

“Teens on our Teen Advisory Board help us determine what type of programs they are interested in,” Vardon said.

While running these programs, Vardon has seen an increase of teenagers participating in activities at the library. To her, this is a great opportunity to find out more about what exactly teens are most interested in. She can do this by checking out the attendance for different types of programs and then deciding what activities should become regular.

Vardon believes that taking advantage of your local library is very important for teenagers, especially as more activities become more expensive.

“I think it is really important that the library is providing that kind of space where you can just go and have a good time,” Vardon said, “There are no expectations of this costing you anything,”

An important part of the library is that there is something for everyone, whether you can attend or not. The Beacon Falls Public Library will sometimes make “Take and Make” bags that provide teenagers with a craft they may be interested in but gives them the freedom to do it at home on their own time. In addition to this, the library is significant for all ages because of the range of activities they have.

The library has many upcoming events for people of all ages to enjoy and participate in. During October there are Halloween themed activities, and in December the library is hoping to have a candyland theme to further enchant the space. You can find upcoming events on the Beacon Falls Public Library website.

“I think that some people think that they outgrow the library, but really I want them to know that we have programs that grow with you.”
