Lifting for More

One of the most physically demanding sports activities is weight lifting: the amount of power one needs to lift a set amount of weight is nearly impossible without training.

Matthew Petta, weightlift competitor for Woodland, reveals how the weight lifting competition took place on March 12th.

“A bunch of teams from the NVL competed at Seymour High School,” said Petta. “We went to the cafeteria, their weightlifting room and their gym to do squat power clean and bench.”

There were many people from Woodland participating in the competition.

“If you weren’t competing then [you] went to go support,” said Petta.

The crowd was extremely supportive and passionate while it was one of our competitor’s turn to lift.

The Woodland team as a whole lifted ten-thousand pounds but the most pounds was Will Brooks, who managed to squat an astounding 405 pounds.

None of these accomplishments would be possible without the team’s hard work and determination.

Eating is a crucial part of weightlifting especially for the Woodland team. Protein is an important nutrient as it helps weightlifters build muscular strength which in turn helps them better handle heavier weight.
