Super Bowl XLVI; Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold

The Super Bowl is the biggest event of the year for football fans and players everywhere.

A super bowl berth is two-fold. A team wins their league by winning the championship game then they get the chance to play in the biggest event in all of football.

The two teams this year are the New York Giants and the New England Patriots, both teams being from the northeastern part of the country cause a heavy rivalry between fans throughout the New England area.

The reason why this Super Bowl is so special is because these two teams met in 2008, but the Giants pulled the upset in Arizona and gave the Patriots their first loss of the season, shattering their perfect season.

The Giants run that year was legendary as they were nicknamed the “road warriors” for their dominating power on opponent’s fields.

The most important game of their run was the NFC championship game when they were considered an underdog, against Brett Favre, on the ice cold Green Bay field. But the Giants played well and beat the Packers after a clutch game-winning field goal by kicker Lawrence Tynes.

This year the Giants earned their nickname back and won three straight road games against the Falcons, Packers, and the 49ers. The Giants got a good start to their playoff run as they beat the Falcons in Atlanta, but more importantly they only allowed two points the entire game.

The game against the Packers was a game for revenge, as the (15-1) Packers were defeated by the resilient New York Giants again on their home field in Green Bay.

The NFC championship game was held in San Francisco, this year and yet again the odds were stacked against them, in a rainy Candle Stick Park, the Giants stepped up and won the game by an overtime field goal by Lawrence Tynes, yet again.

This Giants playoff run was filled with failed revenge and overcoming the odds, but the Giants aren’t done yet as they look to stop the Patriots again in Super Bowl XLVI.

The Patriots on the other hand have had another successful postseason as they make it to the Super Bowl yet again. Led by superstar quarterback, Tom Brady, the Pats are looking for their fourth super bowl title, but this one will be just a little better if they seek revenge and succeed.

The 2007-2008 seasons was like a dream for the Patriots, with an undefeated season they were looking for a Super Bowl title, to make it perfect and become the second team in football history to have a perfect season and win the super bowl.

While both of the Giants postseason runs were filled with hardship, they ended up winning in the end of 2008, and Patriots had it easy both times thus far, and all we can do is wait to see who comes out victorious and who goes home.
