The Championships are Set: Giants/49ers and Ravens/Patriots

The AFC and NFC championship games are set, after the wins on Sunday.

The championship games are the second most important game in the whole NFL, besides the super bowl. These games show basically who the best team in their league is.

The first game that was played on Sunday was between the Baltimore Ravens, and the Houston Texans.

At 8-0 at home the Ravens were the game’s favorite to win.

Houston Texans, third string, rookie, quarterback T.J. Yates has unarguably put the team on his back, and carried them to this playoff spot.  After the loss of quarterbacks Lienert, and Shaub, the rookie for UNC, has stepped up and played like no one thought he would.

The game began with the Ravens off to a hot start while they scored 17 points in the first quarters, and the Texans only managed 3.

The Texans showed that they were here to play and scored an unanswered 10 points. With a scoreless 3rd quarter, the Baltimore Ravens stretched the gap with a field goal.

The Texans inability to come back was due to 4 Houston turnovers, including three interceptions and one fumble; including a hail marry interception by free safety Ed Reed, in the last minute the game, to put the nail in the coffin for the Texans.

The Ravens have advanced to decide who is the best in the AFC, next week they will play the invincible New England Patriots at home in Foxboro, Mass.

The other game that day was a matchup between the top-seeded Green Bay Packers, and the low-seeded New York Giants. Having a reputation as the “road-warriors” the Giants were ready to take on the Packers electric offense headed by super bowl quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

In the icy tundra the (15-1, 8-0 at home) Packers were also the favorite to win. The Giants were predicted to lose as the professionals thought that their previous win versus the Falcons was a fluke.

With a pair of field goals to start off the game, the giants took the lead with a 66 yard touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks.

In the second quarter the Giants put up another 10 points, but the Packers would answer with a touchdown.

With the score at 20-10, the Packers defense would hold the Giants to no points in the third quarter, but the Packers would manage a field goal.

The final quarter was really when the fireworks started as the Packers got hot and put up another touchdown, the Giants would put up 17 points though and the Packers would not be able to respond. With a final score of 37-20, the Giants silenced a mighty Packers team who won fourteen straight games this season.

The Giants have earned a spot to travel to San Francisco, and battle the tough 49ers, which just can off an emotional victory against the Saints.

So the league’s best will meet in a showdown for the ages, as the Baltimore Ravens will battle the New England Patriots, and the New York Giants will face the seemingly unstoppable San Fran. 49ers.
