Student Council plans for the 2011-2012 school year

By Noora-Sofia Kallio

High school involves lots of work and  stress for many students. To lessen the burden there are fun and memorable activies that are provided by the Student Council.

The goal of Woodland’s Student Council is to represent and serve every individual student and to provide different school functions and activities through out the year.

Jessica Pellegrino, Communication Secretery and senior, says that this year they will continue traditional activies like Homecoming and Spirit Week. Along with these events, Student Council is planning to try something new.

This was the third year in Woodland history when  the Student Council organized Clubbing at Woodland. At the end of October, all clubs assembled in the gym and set their own information desk up. Students in Woodland had a chance to see each club and become familiar with them. Student Council was there, too, serving donuts and apple cider.

During this time of year WRSC is also getting prepared for other traditional like Homecoming and Spirit week, and both have been approved. Student council is still working on them and takes students’ ideas into consideration when planning. Emily Broe, senior, is in charge of organizing Homecoming and Spirit Week and will be running both of them this year.

Besides the familiar annual activies, WRSC wants to try some new event ideas. One of the ideas is Movie night. Once or twice a month a movie will be shown in the auditorium. There would be different types of movies, corresponding with the time of year. PG-13 has been approved, so all the students, their families and probably community are welcome.

As another project,  for Veterans Day,  Seth Stevens, President of WRSC, suggested a new idea for that day to carry out in Woodland.

Students did their part to honor the veterans by writing the name  of a veteran in their family on a card and bringing it to the school. All the names were hung on the wall to be recognized. Student Council decided to continue old events to promote school spirit, but with a new school year in session, the WRSC is taking advantage of a blank slate.
