Walker Emerges As A Star

After two years as an average player, Junior Kemba Walker has emerged this season as an all-star.

As a freshman, Walker made an impact scoring 8.9 points per game. He also received honors for the Big East All-Rookie team.

During his sophomore season, Walker improved once again. His averages went up to 14.6 points per game while receiving little honors here and there.

But, none of this compares to what Walker emerged to as during his third and final season: his junior year. He averaged 23.5 points per game this season.

The UConn Huskies were chosen to come in last in the Big East. Little did everyone know was that they would come back to win the Big East title.

I bet they weren’t a popular pick to win it all, either.

Walker, being the point guard, led his team through the good and the bad and never lost faith despite a mid-season slump.

It did not matter that the whole country could have doubted their talent and expected the Huskies to have a very bad season.

Walker as well as his supporting cast including Sophomores Alex Oriakhi, Jamaal Coombs-McDaniel, and Freshmen Jeremy Lamb, Roscoe Smith, and Shabazz Napier came back with a greater will to win than ever.

This season Walker started off on the right foot becoming the Most Outstanding Player at the Maui Invitational, the Most Outstanding Player at the Big East Tournament, The Most Outstanding Player at the Final Four, a First-Team All-American, and the winner of the Cousy Award which honors the nation’s top point guard.

Walker also finished his last season off at UConn with 965 points which is the highest ever to be scored in a single season at UConn.

After leading his team to the Final Four and defeating Kentucky and Butler down the way, Walker made his way back to Gample.

There, fans were awaiting the Huskies to get off of their plane at Bradley airport to return to UConn and support and congratulate them.

Walker also became a part of the Huskies of Honor, joining players like Ray Allen, Donyell Marshall, and Emeka Okafor just to name a few.

Now, Walker has to choose between staying at UConn for his last season, or entering the NBA draft.

As he had just won the championship, Walker wanted to take that all in before worrying about the next move.

According to the New York Post, Walker promised his mom that he would not leave UConn until he received a ring and until he got his degree.

He can check both of those off of his to-do list because he won the national championship, and will receiving his certificate in May.

Walker will sure be encouraged to enter the draft and as of right now in the Mock Draft, he stands at number nine to get picked.

The plus side for Walker is that if he stays at UConn, he will have the same mold of players to continue the success with. The only thing that can happen is that they can get better, faster, and stronger as a team.

Walker told the press that he has plans to go back-to-back which is very much possible.

Whatever his decision, he will continue to have great success.
