A Disney Production

In order to graduate, every senior must complete a senior project. The project must be approved by Dr. Frank and must benefit the community in some way.

Sarah Steinbacher, senior at Woodland, decided to put on a production.

During her sophomore year she was able to be a part of someone else’s senior project and perform the classic, Alice in Wonderland.

Instead of choosing one classic to recreate she decided to combine a bunch of them, taking songs from all her childhood favorites ranging from the Lion King to Friend Like Me.

Once her songs were decided and it was approved, she held auditions. Anybody who wanted to join was welcome too. She listened to their voices and then matched them with a part from the songs.

While this seemed easy she needed to be careful when it came to copyright laws. The Lion King’s rules state that you can use the music if it’s for a non-profit event and you do not portray certain characters. To get around these rules they choose the song I Just Can’t Wait to be King and decided they would all just play an animal.

With help from her mom and sister Stenbacher couldn’t be more excited for the event. “This is the one time during the week where I can come and be stressed out and excited and sad and happy all at the same time—and it’s just great,” said Stenbacher.

Not only is the director enjoying herself but so is the cast. Dan Lyons, junior at Woodland and participant in the program, says, “[I enjoy it because] we are having fun doing what we enjoy.”

With the excitement building the cast can’t wait for their production on Saturday April 30th at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of Woodland.

So come by and take a step back into your childhood imagination with the characters you grew up with.
