Silly Bandz: A Popular Trend

Silly Bandz are character shaped rubber bands that come in various shapes and colors. Many students at Woodland can be caught wearing these colorful bands around their wrists. Silly Bandz are supposed to be rubber bands, but at Woodland they are treated like bracelets.
“They’re fun. They’re cheap. I really like them.” says sophomore at Woodland, Rachel Lonchar.
The bracelets come in all types of shapes, from girly hearts and flowers to neutral shapes like animals or letters. The bands also come in a variety of colors.
Students have been seen wearing a few or even sporting a whole wrist full of these funky rubber bands.
As far as serving their actual purpose of being rubber bands, the Silly Bandz seem to fall short. Some say this “silly” trend resembles a demented bracelet when on the wrist while others find it entertaining to wear their favorite animal.

Silly Bandz are very popular amongst kids in elementary school; it is virtually entertaining to them that these elastic bands always return back to their favorite shape.

There seems to be no point in this trend, but Silly Bandz can be used as Easter basket fillers, party bag gifts or scrunchis. Also, parents have been utilizing these bandz as a learning tool for kids. The silly bandz are offered in a variety of letters, numbers and animal shapes which help toddlers learn their abc’s in a fun way.
“I don’t use them for rubber bands [because] they don’t work at all. I think they’re more of a fashion statement than an office supply” says sophomore and Silly Band wearer, Alyssa Stewart.

The Silly Bandz can be purchased at any Hallmark Card Store or at Beacon Falls own Dan’s Mart Gas Station. You can wear, collect or trade them with your friends.
