First Year Cheerleaders Having Their Chance

This year, many freshmen have decided to join the Woodland Regional Cheer Team to bring the school spirit up a notch. For some this is their first time cheerleading; others are more experienced and have been cheering for several years. But they are all looking forward to furthering their bonds with teammates and cheering on the sidelines at games.

Freshman Sierra Lahey, a base on the cheer team, says that she’s been cheering since she was in third grade, and is looking forward to a new season with a new team. Lahey talks about how she looks forward to the energy and positivity that the girls and the new coach will bring to the floor this season.

“My favorite part about the team is looking forward to everyone growing closer together,” said Lahey.

Freshman flyer, Emily Preston, says that it is her first year ever cheerleading. She was encouraged by her older sister Tiana Preston, a junior, to join the cheerleading team so that they could cheer together for her last few years on the team.

“I’ve never cheered in front of a crowd, so I’m looking forward to trying something new,” Preston said. “Something that’s out of my comfort zone.”

Flyer Natalie Strachan started cheering in seventh grade and really enjoys learning new skills and trying new things.

“I’m looking forward to improving my flying skills and getting [to try] more new skills,” Strachan said.

Be sure to support the cheer team, as they will be cheering at every home basketball game this season.
