Timber Team Season Wrap-Up

With the end of any sports season, it is not only important to reflect on the team’s wins and losses, but also its growth. Having closed their 2023 season, the Woodland Regional Timber Team has much to be proud of, and much to look forward to for their spring season.

“This season went very well,” senior captain Ashley Mayfield said. “A lot of our players placed in events.”

The events of the fall season ranged from bowsaw to pulp toss. With a varied skill set, the team traveled to three events across Connecticut. One of the most memorable events this season was the Harwinton Fair, when multiple members found themselves on the podium. In particular, the Men’s Pulp Team, consisting of Luke Galasso, Edgar Jorge, Wyatt Finley, and Michael Varesio took first place after throwing a series of perfect rounds.

“It is fun being around people I have competed with since freshman year,” said senior captain Luke Galasso.

Many of the team’s successes can be attributed to the close-knit dynamic. At the end of each season, the team throws a party to celebrate their wins.

“The timber team is very familial,” Mayfield said. “Everyone is very tightly-knit because we are such a small and unique community.”

The next season begins this spring, and the members are optimistic about continuing to make improvements to their expertise, as well as compete with new schools.

“It is the [seniors’] final season with the team too,” Galasso said. “So I am especially looking forward to making the best of my last competitions.”
