A year of wacky weather

By Jessica Crosby

Thanksgiving has passed and the holidays are right around the corner. Winter is the coldest time of the year and people are preparing for the harsh weather. However, winter may be just as unpredictable as fall.

This fall has had some wacky weather. At the end of October, a huge snowstorm hit Connecticut. The storm had whipped out approximately 3 million residents power.

People were desperate to find generators to keep warm. The snowstorm had kept kids out of school for nearly a week, in the dark and cold.

Since the trees had not lost their leaves, this caused down branches and power lines. There was a ton of snow throughout Connecticut and it all happened in the middle of fall.

People were wearing their winter coats instead of their Halloween costumes this year.

This snowstorm however, did not repeat. November did not have any snow. Instead it stayed steady at 60-65 degree weather.

Citizens of Connecticut got a chance to turn off the heaters or fireplaces and enjoy the weather on some days. The weather went from a major snow storm to mild weather. There has not been a snow storm since the one in October. The only form of precipitation that we have had in November and so far in December is rain.

The weather is always a tricky aspect of life to predict. Although meteorology is a professional branch of science, it is not always a precise one.

So far this year, Connecticut has experienced an earthquake, a  hurricane, and an October snowstorm.

Now, there is “spring weather” (Channel 8 WTNH news) in December. Some people may wonder if there will be a heat wave on Christmas Day.
