Captain Feature – Jamie Shaffer

People lining up to start. The gun goes off and who do we see ahead of all the hurdlers? That would be  Jamie Shaffer. She is one of the many hurdlers on the Woodland track team, but this year, Shaffer has a special role: being the captain.

“Since there are only a few senior girls I wasn’t very surprised when the captain ship was given to me,” said Shaffer. “But I was still happy because I had wanted to be captain since I was a freshman.”

Shaffer found her love for hurdling during her sophomore year.

“I started sophomore year and I tried it out to see if I was any good and ended up getting the hang of it super quick,” stated Shaffer.

This season has been going very well for Shaffer.

“I have already hit my personal record and am hoping to make state opens,” Shaffer said.

Since this is her last year, she has very high expectations for the outdoor season.

“Even though the team will be bigger, I hope that we still have a close relationship like we do in the indoor season,” says Shaffer.

Through her years, she has made really good memories

“My favorite memory of the track team was senior night my sophomore year,” stated Shaffer. “We had a great time that night and the seniors that year were amazing.”

Track is not for everybody, but if you are interested Shaffer recommends it.

“It’s a great competitive sport and a great way to make friends!”
