End of Season Recap: Boys Soccer

The Woodland Regional High School boys soccer team had a very successful 2021 fall season. The boys had a very impressive undefeated regular season record of 12-0-2. The team was led by coaches Kenan Collins and A.J Olivera, and senior captains Sean Hussey, Christian Hotchkiss, and Sean Swanson.

“Overall, I think it went really well,” Collins said. “Obviously there’s a disappointment of not bringing something home to Woodland, but I think going through a regular season undefeated and only suffering two losses is a mark of a good team for sure.”

The boys team bounced back during difficult games.

“There were many instances where we were faced with some kind of adversity, but the boys were always able to bounce back and fight it out,” Collins said. “For example, being down 2-0 against Naugatuck and being able to come back to tie it, and almost leaving with that third goal too.”

The boys had a very good bond among their team as well.

“There is definitely a family feel for the boys soccer team,” mentioned Collins.

The captains felt the same way about their play and final standings.

“Overall I think our went pretty well, we went undefeated throughout our regular season. Unfortunately, we did not make it as far as we would have wanted to in the post season,” Hussey said.

“We set a goal to get pretty far, and we actually did that. We wanted to be undefeated, and we got an undefeated season. I think that’s a pretty good accomplishment,” Swanson said.

The Captains also talked about the bond that was created among the team this season.

“The chemistry among our team was very good this year as well. It was not the stereotypical. Everyone talked to everyone. We all hung out outside of soccer. It was like a big family,” Hotchkiss said.

Through their successful play on the field, and the strong bond off of it, this year’s soccer team laid the groundwork for years to come.
