Volleyball Team Managers

Not all students at Woodland are aware of the work that Woodland’s volleyball team managers do to keep the team going. From attending practices and games to decorating for  the team’s Senior Night, the managers make up their own team of hard-workers.

It would be difficult for Woodland’s volleyball team to function without its managers. They do all of the tasks that keep the team organized to make sure that the players and coaches don’t have to because they should be focusing on games and practices.

“There are many different jobs,” said Emily Vance, a manager on the team. “Some are simple, some are more complex.”

One responsibility that Vance has is to be the libero tracker, which is a player in a different color shirt that serves as a defense specialist.

“I track all of the times that the libero switches out with another player,” said Vance. “Sometimes it can get a little confusing, but I love my job.”

This year, the team has 11 managers made up of students from all grades. Caroline Osborn, a senior manager, found out how much she enjoyed being a manager after being cut from the team during her freshman year and just stuck with it. She quickly found out how important her job as a manager would be and what responsibilities she would have.

“[Managers] are present at every single game,” said Osborn. “One responsibility we have is to make sure that the coaches have paperwork before a game.”

The volleyball team managers fill out paperwork for the team that keeps everyone organized. They will also do the announcements before a game that welcomes everyone to Woodland. In addition to this, get lineups from the other team’s coach to see which players on their team are on the court.

“We help the team function smoothly,” Vance said. “[The volleyball managers] are really an important part of the sport.”
