Bryce DiGiovanna: Taking over the Track

Bryce DiGiovanna, senior runner, is taking over the track this year as captain of the indoor team. DiGiovanna is ready to take on the world of track, leading by example.

DiGiovanna has been competing in Woodland’s track program all four years, starting during the outdoor season in his freshman year. He then continued to run both indoor and outdoor upon seeing the family aspect of the team.

“It’s amazing how close the team gets, it is such a different bond compared to outdoor track,” said DiGiovanna. “We do everything together.”

Competing in track meets for a while now, DiGiovanna has honed his skills and continues to improve with others. Even a minor setback from recurring knee issues did not faze DiGiovanna. He was able to take time to care for his body and was back on the track in no time.

With consistent running stamina, he constantly outlasts his opponents in races. During practices, he is constantly working to improve, crushing goal after goal. DiGiovanna was able to qualify for states in the 4×8 with a 2:19 time. There is no stopping DiGiovanna. He hopes to accomplish a new personal record in the mile event. Yet, his main intention for the season has remained unchanged: work hard and have fun.

DiGiovanna has also developed a close relationship with his teammates and wishes to see them succeed as well during the season.

“This year, my goal as captain is to help everyone achieve or make progress on their personal goal,” said DiGiovanna.

As his senior indoor track season comes to an end, DiGiovanna remembers all of the impactful memories and fun that he has made from his time doing track.

“Sophomore year, the Naugatuck Valley League Meet did not end until after [midnight]. We were hungry, so we went to McDonald’s and got food, then sat in the parking lot until two in the morning,” said DiGiovanna.

His involvement in the Woodland track program has made DiGiovanna’s high school years more memorable and filled with learning experiences.
