In or Out SAT

We have heard about this test since we started middle school, if not sooner. The SAT, the test that everyone dreads, but is it still needed? We have studied for most of our years in high school for this big test, and now some colleges are not even requiring it. It has been said to be a right of passage for all juniors, and has been met with a lot of negative feedback over the years.

“I expected all colleges to need your SAT scores,” said Woodland Senior, Tyler Raudis. “Turns out they don’t require it as much as I thought.”

The CollegeBoard’s Scholastic Aptitude Test [SAT] was once the hallmark needed to stand out to colleges and your score could be the deciding factor of your acceptance. Today that score has lost a lot of its weight.  With the SAT losing its power, people are putting less and less time into it and are disappointed when they find out that they didn’t even need it in the first place.

Knowing that colleges might not need your scores leaves students wondering why they are putting so much time and effort into preparations for the test with the SAT prep classes running after the SAT.

“Every college that I applied to was test optional; the test took too long and I feel that I wasted my time” said Senior, Peyton Kane

The test has been around for such a long time it might be time to find another way to test the intelligence and aptitude of a student; however, with the change of the format of the test, the college board might have found a way to preserve the test a little longer. For how long is undetermined.
