Senior Dilemmas: Coming in Late vs. Leaving Early

Senior Privilege makes Woodland special. Throughout all three years students look forward to being a senior and having that privilege of being able to come in late or leave early if they have a study hall.

“I would rather come in late because I don’t get as much sleep as I need to,” said Ethan Stepputis. “Getting that extra hour of sleep in the morning makes a big difference. ”

Coming in late is crucial for students that participate in sports simply because athletes arrive home late from sport events and having that extra sleep and extra time to get assignments is very important. Stepputis also talks about how when he does not come in late he feels like he is ready to sleep all day.

Another Woodland senior, Ava Laudadio, also agrees and believes that coming in late is more beneficial.

“It affects my everyday routine because I am happier throughout the day knowing that I am in school for less time and that I was able to get more sleep,” said Laudadio.

On the other hand, some seniors, like Michael Goggin, see leaving early as a benefit.

“ I would rather leave early because when I leave school early I get to go home and relax before I have to leave for work.”

A main reason why seniors prefer a last block study is because they have a job or they’re taking rigorous courses, which makes it hard for them to balance time in the afternoon. Melissa Martins needs that extra time for herself.

“ I would rather leave early because I have a job and I would rather have time in between to get everything done, and get ready.”

Overall, there are benefits to both sides of the argument, it depends how it affects you as a student at Woodland Regional. Many seniors prefer to come in late but with that being said many seniors also enjoy the leisure of leaving early. This senior privilege means a lot to seniors and it will continue into the class of 2025.
