Captain Feature – Zoë Bronn

Zoë Bronn, senior captain, has been a dedicated member of the Woodland Swim and Dive team for the past four years. As captain, Bronn makes sure she sets a good example for her teammates and encourages them to do their best.

Bronn started swimming on a club team when she was eight years old. She has been a dedicated swimmer ever since.

“I have been swimming for the past nine years inside and outside of school,” said Bronn. “It is something I really enjoy.”

Although Bronn started swimming when she was eight, it was not until sixth grade that she truly decided she wanted to stick with it.

“I never thought that swimming would become such a big part of my life,” said Bronn. “But when I realized the positive impact it had on me I could not see myself without it.”

Bronn loves swimming because of the team and after every race and practice, she gains a sense of achievement.

“When I finish a race or complete a tough practice, I feel like I have accomplished a lot,” said Bronn. “It also helps that you are surrounded by a team that only wants you to succeed.

Becoming a captain has been a goal for Bronn since her freshman year. Bronn understands the importance of having a captain who is welcoming and always shows up with a positive attitude.

“I have always wanted to be in that position that encourages the rest of the team and makes sure everyone is working hard and trying their best,” said Bronn. “I also wanted to take on that big sister role that a captain is for the underclassmen.”

As captain, Bronn needs to help her teammates stay focused.

“Sometimes at swim, we lose our focus and it is important for the captains to get everyone back on track,” said Bronn.

Along with being a swimmer, she is also a student who needs to balance athletics and academics. To be successful at swimming and in school, she tries to do her work as soon as it is assigned.

“I find that completing my work quickly and not procrastinating allows me to fully focus on swim,” said Bronn.

Bronn is entirely dedicated to the swim team and hopes that as a captain she will have a positive impact on her team. She wants the entire team to succeed throughout the remainder of the season.

“We have a really strong team,” said Bronn. “At our first meet, almost all of the girls got personal records.”

The team’s main goal this season is to win Naugatuck Valley League Championships  and have a lot of swimmers go to States. Bronn hopes they can do this by putting in hard work and showing up with a positive attitude.

“We need to practice hard every day,” said Bronn. “We also need to do our best to stay focused because that is how we will succeed.”
