The Woodland Track Family

Outdoor track, a fun social sport, has been progressing since March 18th. Even though the regular season is over, NVLs and States are currently taking place. This year, track has a large number of players, about 120, who are all hard-working and determined to beat their personal record every meet.

This year there has been a total of seven meets with the boys and girls team with a record of 11-1. Key players such as Daniella Celotto, Bryce DiGiovanna, and Brian Babo wanted to share their track experiences and some information they would like people to know about the sport.

Celotto, current junior, has been on the track team since her freshman year. Celotto runs the long distance events, her favorite event being the 1600. At the NVL meet, May 24th, Celotto is going to run the open 800, the 1600, and the 3200.

She feels as though track is her second family and she always feels comfortable hanging out with them. She loves going out to eat with the team after meets and she loves when they are always cheering on everyone, no matter what event it is.

DiGiovanna, current junior, has also been on the track team since his freshman year. Along with Celotto, DiGiovanna runs the long distance events and his favorite event is the 1600. At the upcoming NVL meet, DiGiovanna will be an alternate for the 4 x 800 event. He feels that he has made some of his closest friends during his three track seasons.

“Ever since I joined track freshman year, I have made some of my best friends through running with them and always being together,” DiGiovanna said.

Lastly, Babo, current senior, has been on the track team since his junior year. Babo throws shot-put and discus and is currently second in the NVL. He has recently beat the school record throwing 139 feet and 10 inches at the Oxford meet. Babo’s favorite part about track is hanging out with the team and making new friends.

These three athletes, as well as the majority of the track team, have had a memorable track season that they will not forget. The team feels as though they are as close to being a family as a team can be.

“I love the track team,” said Celotto. “It’s like one big family, the practices and meets are so much fun.”
