Nick Christiano Captain Feature

Senior at Woodland, Nick Christiano, has stepped up as swim captain for the 2023 boys season.

Christiano’s swimming career has been going on now for ten years. Since swimming for Long River Middle School and the Naugatuck ThunderFish club team, Christiano has gained much skill and knowledge.

Practices with their coach, Brenden Heller, can be very difficult. The boys swim team practices seven times a week from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Fridays, once a week from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., and 8-10:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

“Practice is very hard, but you have to give it your best shot each day and continue to work hard,” said Christiano. “The results will come.”

Christiano encourages the boys every day by saying things like this. Now that he is a captain, he has more of a responsibility. The team looks up to their captains, so Christiano does all he can to help.

Christiano has accomplished great things during his career on the Woodland Swim Team.

“My greatest achievement was winning NVLs and ranking second for class S in states last year,” said Christiano.

As Christiano’s time on the team is coming to an end, he looks back on his journey with the team and all they have accomplished. Christiano does not plan to swim in college, he says that he will miss the competitive aspect, and the bond he has with his teammates.

“I like how everyone comes to work every single day,” said Christiano. “The results are showing up and we all realize that.”
