Outer Banks Season 3 Recap

The roller coaster continues as Outer Banks returns for Season 3. This season we got introduced to many new characters and new places that made the show even more of a mystery.

The Pogues also known as the “working class” are stranded on a deserted island, which they call “Poguelandia.” The Pogues spot a plane flying over the island and use the opportunity for help but later realize the man flying the plane, Jimmy Portis, was hired to bring them somewhere. The plane crashes in the ocean in Barbados and the Pogues try to make a quick escape. As all the kids are worried about escaping, Kiera tried to save Portis from drowning and ends up getting taken away by Carlos Singh (a man who is going after the Pogues because he wants Denmark’s diary) and his men. All the others made it out successfully.

Meanwhile Rafe is trying to sell the gold he sold from the Pogues, to a client in Barbados. Rafe is captured along with Kiera. Singh thinks they could help him find Denmark’s diary which will lead him to more gold. As Singh leaves for a little while, Rafe and Kiera manage to escape when Singh is distracted. As they are making their escape, Kiera leaves Rafe behind and takes his boat to find her friends. When all the Pogues joined together, John B started to hear church bells ringing in the pattern that his father used to ring them. He ends up going to the church and he finds out that his dad is alive after all. The others take a boat and leave him behind because they are worried Singhs men will capture them. John B and his dad take a boat to search for the original version of Denmark’s Diary. On the hunt for the diary, Big John ended up killing two men who were also in search of it, leaving John B traumatized.

Ward is still healing and he wants to sell his properties in Outer Banks. He tells Rafe to sell them for him but Rafe doesn’t want to give them up. Ward eventually noticed that his properties were not selling. He makes a return to the Outer Banks and confronts Rafe for not selling them. Barry and Rafe join together to melt down the cross so they can make smaller portions of gold to sell.

As the search continues Big John and John B find the gnomon idol that has inscriptions in Kalinago. The only person that is able to translate Kalinago is Professor Sowell. But because Singhs men have killed him, they are out of luck. Instead Singhs men capture Big John and try to get him to translate the idol. Luckily Big John manages to escape.

Big John wants John B to keep the idol a secret from his friends so John B shuts out Sarah and the rest of the Pogues. This causes distance between Sarah and John B causing an argument because she knows he is hiding something from her. John B brings up how her father tried to kill him so he can defend himself. Sarah leaves and tries to find a place to stay because she is upset with him. She goes to her ex-boyfriend Topper for help. Topper wants to make her feel good so he brings her to a party. Later on at the party she cheats on John B with Topper.

Later on Sarah felt regretful about the situation and wanted to be honest with John B. John B feels angry so he takes it out on Topper by beating him up and nearly killing him. Topper wanted to press charges against John B but Sarah told him to wait until he leaves the island.

John B and JJ want to find the way to Solana so they can get the gold and track down where Big John went after he had been kidnapped and sent to South America. John B remembers Solana mentioning a guy named Neville so they go to him to find out how to get the gold. John B tries to get to South America before he gets arrested for beating up Topper. John B and JJ go to Barracuda Mike so he could help them get to South America.

Rafe pulls a gun on Ward and threatens to turn him in to the police because Rafe doesn’t want him to sell Tannyhill and Ward wants him to go to Guadeloupe with him.

Pope and Cleo find a letter that is a translation key that could help them find the city of gold. This translation key can save Big John and it could get them the treasure.

Sarah asks Ward if she can borrow his plane and because hes desperate for a relationship with her, he agrees. They are gonna use the plane to get to South America. Sarah and John B talk in private, to discuss what happened between them. They decided it was better off if they were together again. Meanwhile Topper had a conversation with Rafe and Rafe told him things about Sarah that made him suspicious. Topper drives over to John B’s house and catches Sarah and John B together. Topper is furious and decides to burn down John B’s house to take his anger out. JJ luckily spotted the fire and they all were able to escape in time, but not knowing it was Topper.

The Pogues plan to take off to South America but they have to get permission with their parents first. Pope and Cleo ask Pope’s parents and they are hesitant about it at first but with Cleo helps they manage to get his parents to say yes. For Kiera on the other hand, it doesn’t go as planned. When she makes it to her house she is stopped by someone who works for Kitty Hawk (an adventure therapy wilderness camp). They take her away and Kiera doesn’t make it to the plane so her friends start to worry about her. JJ takes the twinkie to Kieras house and is stopped by her parents who tell him that they sent her away. He heads to Kitty Hawk then stopped by Barracuda Mike and is held at gunpoint. He talks about El Dorado and offers them the fortune. Barracuda Mike lets him go as they make a deal. JJ breaks in and gets into Kitty Hawk in search of Kiera. He breaks her out of the camp successfully after Kiera gives him hints on where she was located. They share a romantic moment where they kiss in the middle of her cabin and all of Kieras’ roomates cheer.

Rafe makes his way over to Ward’s hideout spot and he catches an assassin stabbing him. Rafe saves him but a canoer sees Ward, which can put him in danger.

Topper goes to the airstrip where John B, Sarah, Cleo, and Pope are waiting. Topper confronts Sarah about lying to him. When Topper leaves he files charges again and the Sheriff is contacted. The Sheriff also gets the news that Ward is alive and back in Outer Banks so he heads to the airstrip to take off to another country so he doesn’t get caught. Rafe and Ward show up and Rafe tries to get him on the plane quickly before the police arrive. They leave without JJ and Kiera but they go on a plane with Barracuda Mike to finish their hunt for El Dorado along with the others.

As they are on the hunt in South Africa, Singh’s men are still after them. Sarah and John B find Big John and try to help him escape. Sarah and John B need the moon’s light to read the clues for the Gnomon idol to go into place. They use clues to try and solve riddles. Singh comes and Ward gives away their location. They find a way to escape from him. Mike provided the other Pogues with supplies to help them. Along the way Pope and Cleo share a kiss as Cleo tells him that she loves him.

Big John has been shot and he is bleeding out so Singh follows his trail of blood to find them. Sarah and John B search a cave. Signh is waiting for them at the otherside. He takes the gold and puts Big John at gunpoint. Big John took out a bomb and was ready to use it towards Singh. He finally uses it to kill him and it destroys the ancient city. The Pogues escape the cave with the gold. Ward appears with a gun trying to take the gold of himself. Sarah takes the gun and saves everyone. One of Singh’s men then appears and tries taking the gold. He aims the gun at Sarah but Wads jumps in front of him and saves her by sacrificing himself. He pushes Ryan off a cliff and he goes down with him. Big John is bleeding out and they save him but it’s too late.

After Big John dies it skips to eighteen months later. The Pogues are at a celebration for themselves where the people of Outer Banks are honoring them. After the celebration an old man appears and shows them a manuscript. He asks them if they can help him because he is getting too old to do it by himself. The Pogues are ready to start a new adventure.
