Softball’s State Rings

The Woodland softball team stepped off of UConn’s Burrill Family Field as their dreams of a back-to-back class “M” state championship became a reality. Since June 10th, the Hawks celebrated the win for months to come. As a reward for their victory, the team was given rings at a ceremony before the annual Thanksgiving football game.

The entire softball team was waiting anxiously to get their rings and receive recognition for their accomplishment. Kate Lisowski, varsity starter as a freshman, has wanted her ring since the state final.

“It’s a reward for my hard work and dedication, as well as a reminder to me that I really can do anything I put my mind to,” said Lisowski.

Even graduated alumni were eager for the ring ceremony because they would get reunited with the team.

“Although I got a ring from the [2022 softball state championship], I couldn’t wait to get my ring for this year,” said Woodland alumni, Peyten Filippone. “The ring carries memories of my entire Woodland softball career.”

Each player was called individually to walk onto the field and collect their ring. Then to conclude the ceremony, the team took a picture with members of the Region 16 Board of Education and the coaches of the team.

The rings that the team received were alluring and finely detailed. The center plate of the ring was studded with silver gems and included a golden Woodland “W” in the middle as the focal point of the ring.  The sides of the ring featured the player’s last names and numbers, as well as the words “Back To Back Champions”.

The future Woodland softball team hopes to add on to the legacy by appearing at the state finals once again in June of 2024.
