Summer with Dance

In the grueling, hot, sweaty summer, the Woodland Dance Team practiced, stretched, and conditioned two days every week. During this time, the members pushed themselves to their absolute limits and tested their skills. All this hard work is to prepare them for the difficult but exciting upcoming season.

Every Wednesday and Friday in the summer, the girls would start their conditioning in the late afternoon. The dance team works their absolute hardest so they can blow their opponents away during competition season in the start of February. “My hope for us is to get us to nationals down in Florida,” said Woodland dance team coach, Jenn Cataldi. Getting to nationals is hard enough on its own but winning is a whole other level of extreme.

Winning nationals is going to require multiple strenuous hours of dancing, determination, confidence, and team bonding. This is exactly what the dance team worked over the summer.

Team bonding is one of the most important aspects of being on the dance team. During summer, after a few practices, the dance team members decided to hang out and talk with each other at one of their houses. Team bonding gives the dance team time to communicate and become more of a family with each other. The bonding experience also builds the energy and connection while dancing together. When everybody understands each other, giving feedback and asking questions is easier.

In practices over summer, the dance team practiced and learned tricks such as head springs, Kip-ups, Aerials, and front-handsprings. They also cleaned and trained their turns, jumps, and flexibility. In addition, the Woodland Dance Team worked on their core, legs, and arms.

Recently, the WRHS Dance Team had a photoshoot in August with Daniell Way from RogueStudios. The photos came out breathtaking and each photo really showed how amazing the girls are at dancing.

Overall, the WRHS Dance Team does multiple activities over the summer. And during that time, the girls work hard, have fun, and share a memorable summer with each other.
