Captain Feature – Casey Mulligan

“Win as a team, lose as a team. Once you step onto the field, you have to work together as one. The only way to end up on the right side of a result is to put trust into one another and combine to meet success.”

That is the philosophy of which Casey Mulligan, girl’s soccer captain, adheres to while leading her team to success.

A vital part of the team since freshman year, Mulligan has been through the team’s ups and downs and has always been there to assist her fellow teammates when needed.

“I have been with the team through our most important wins, along with our toughest loses. I have been in the position where you just feel utterly defeated, and I want to make sure I can be there when any of my teammates feel that way, since I know what it’s like,” said Mulligan.

She feels this is one of the prime reasons why she deserves to be captain; she has lots of experience and can easily be there for her fellow teammates.

Mulligan’s main priority for this season is to get through everything united. She wants to keep the team closely bonded so anytime they face hiccups or challenges, they can stay together while they push through.

“Weaknesses that many other teams we face have is breaking down. Once they get frustrated on the field, they tend to take it out on each other. This is something we have been able to avoid due to the family culture our team has,” said Mulligan.

This “family culture” is Mulligan’s favorite part of being on the team. The team often goes out for food or has team bonding outside of practice and games. This then translates over into gametime where the team functions more smoothly.

Mulligan’s biggest concern for this season is filling the spots of the seniors who previously graduated.

“We lost a lot of talent this past year with the seniors who graduated, and filling in their shoes will not necessarily be easy,” said Mulligan.

Mulligan plans to work through this by motivating every member on the team to do their absolute best at all times. Working hard at all times and taking every practice seriously are “non-negotiables” for Mulligan. She believes you perform how you practice and every minute put in outside of games reflects how you play during games.

While the conclusion of the girls season is still up in the air, Mulligan is confident that she will do her absolute best to lead the team to their goals.
