Captain Feature – Michaela Gasparri

Michaela Gasparri, junior soccer player, is one of the most recognizable faces in the Naugatuck Valley League. Now, she has a more important role this season: being junior captain.

“I was very surprised and excited to know that I have received the title of junior captain,” said Gasparri.

This role also comes with a lot of responsibilities during the season. Gasparri is ready to take these on and use the responsibilities for the good.

“This role comes with a lot of leadership on and off the field,” said Gasparri.

Throughout her career, Gasparri has had the privilege of working with many different coaches, who have given her lots of great advice that helped her become a better player.

“Things that I have taken away from my coaches are their wisdom that they have given to me.” says Gasparri, “Years before they give me positive feedback on how I can do better next year.”

Last season, Woodland Girls Soccer became back to back NVL champions. This was a big moment for the team. It also had a great outcome for Gasparri.

“Last season affected me as a player because we performed very well,” said Gasparri. “I am trying to be better than previous years.”

The soccer team is like one big family. Each player is close with one another. Everyone has a favorite memory with the team, including Gasparri.

Her favorite memories are last year when the team won NVLs and when they won during her freshman year as well.

There is a lot to look forward to this season. Gasparri is very excited for what is to come.

“I am very excited for this season. I would like to win another NVL championship as well making it far in the state championship.”
