Weekly Sports Recap 3/13-3/18

It is officially outdoor sports season here in the woods, and these teams were officially able to begin practicing this week. Safe to say there is still a long season ahead for all of these teams, but let’s look at how each is kicking off their hopeful seasons.

Outdoor Track

Outdoor track started at the end of this week as coaches Jeff Lownds and Mario Longo met with the team and began conditioning. They have a full week of practice ahead of them with six practices in seven days, and workouts planned on Tuesday and Friday. For this week, however, the coaches focused on evaluating the different athletes and figuring out which events they can succeed.

Baseball

The baseball team began to practice with pitchers and catchers towards the end of the week. The team welcomed back several returning players in these respective positions, and also hosted many new players hoping to solidify their spot on the team. They finished the week with full practices and are expecting to have a full week of practice ahead.

Softball

The softball team also ended the week welcoming back their pitchers and catchers for the first few practices. Despite losing key players in those respective positions, the Hawks are still looking to defend their state title with a well-balanced roster. The full team will continue to practice throughout the week next week.

Boys and Girls Tennis

Both the boys and girls tennis teams began practicing towards the end of this last week, and began by simple conditioning. Before any intense tennis training begins, it is important that the athletes are well conditioned and have enough stamina to succeed on the courts.
