Athlete Spotlight: Alex Farr

Alex Farr’s relentless work ethic is unmatched. His desire and passion to become the best athlete he can be pushes him to train and lead to the best of his ability while inspiring his team to do the same. These characteristics have led him to become one of the captains of the indoor track team for the 2023 Winter Season.

His successful career is a direct reflection of his dedication and discipline he has put in on and off of the track. During the season, he is arguably one of the most hard working athletes on the team.

Farr embraces his work ethic and instills these same values to become the best he can be for himself and the team. In regards to becoming a captain, Farr knows that it has stemmed from the hard work he has put in over the years.

“Always putting in more work has led me to become a captain,” said Farr. “But it is also just being a leader and always helping others do the right thing.”

Farr values winning and becoming the best. He carries a reminder wherever he goes with his favorite quote on his lock screen which states, “The hell and pain you went through will only be admired if you win. Nobody cares unless you win. So win.”

Farr’s main goals this year are to be able to go All American and earn the two mile record and the 800 meter. Recently, Farr just broke one of his early season goals of setting the NVL record for the 600 meter individual race, and has a qualifying time to attend Nationals. Farr is also looking forward to states with his two relays including the sprint medley relay and the 400 meter relay. Although Farr made Nationals in his individual event, running the relays is still one of his favorite parts about track.

“My team pushes me. There are great opportunities and we have fun,” stated Farr.

Farr has had many inspirations throughout his life, but most notably in high school has been track and field coach, Mario Longo, and Colin Slavin, Woodland’s track and field alumni.

“Colin saw my potential before I did,” Farr said. “And I’m really grateful he did.”

Farr’s main priority this season is to stay healthy as he is prone to injuries. The only thing he can do is keep working hard and challenging himself each day.

“A lot of people will tell you that you can’t do it,” said Farr. “But don’t listen to them. Do it anyway.”
