The Girls in the Garage

Have you heard about the Girls in the Garage? If not, let me introduce you to them. The Performance Lab is a local wellness and physical therapy establishment and is run by Rebecca Lavaway and Melissa Peet. They are called the Girls in the Garage because their business is located in the garage next to the Speed Center in Prospect. It was opened in February of 2018 by owner Rebecca Lavaway who is a Prospect resident. I had the pleasure of interviewing the head of the Prospect location, Melissa Peet, for this article. This business has multiple offers and services.

“We offer the traditional rehab if someone is injured or just had a surgery. We do physical therapy but with our own spin,” says Peet “We are with you the entire time when doing exercises that you might do somewhere else. We are watching you when you are doing them.”

They also offer unique wellness benefits that you would never find anywhere else.

“We want to encourage people to come here. You don’t need a referral, we assess your pain and tell you what services you might need. We offer the manual services: dry needling, the sauna and cryotherapy,” Peet stated.

They currently have two locations in Connecticut: one here in Prospect and one in West Hartford.

Peet is in charge of the Prospect location while Jordan Nihol is in charge of the West Hartford location.

“We have a goal to open five locations in five years,” Peet states. “We want to change how physical therapy is done and keep this establishment growing”.

Both Peet and Lavaway both believe that their clients enjoy coming to their establishment. It makes them feel very accomplished in what they have done.

“From someone who is working in this type of business, we are very fortunate to have the best clients and it all circles back. People choose to come here which is so cool to see, they are investing time into getting better,” says Peet.

Our very own vice principal Dr. Dana Mulligan is a client at The Performance Lab and has high praise for this business.

“I like The Performance Lab because the people there are very friendly, they listen and address what your pains are,” Dr. Mulligan said. “They are a great resource for people in the community to go there and get their special approaches unlike a traditional doctor would.”

People love this business because of their great qualities. Being a part of the Prospect community has been a huge hit.

“The advantage of Rebecca being a Prospect resident is that there are a ton of contacts, everyone knows your name,” Peet stated. “We get Woodland students, middle and elementary school students, a ton of teachers and everyone knows everyone.”

When needed, these services can be helpful. So, next time you aren’t feeling right, come visit the Girls in the Garage.
