Advisory Pumpkin Decorating Contest

We love our traditions here at Woodland, the most popular one being Jodie D’Alexander’s Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Since it originated in 2016, the contest has been a hit with advisories pitting their creative talents against one another for a spooktacular prize. The week of October 24th, all advisories were asked to break out their artistic skills and create a cartoon masterpiece, the only requirement being you had to supply your own pumpkin.

Securing the spot of third place was Charlie Swan’s advisory, with a throwback to Scooby Doo & the Gang (right). They truly created a nostalgic piece for all 2000’s babies, as well as showcased their ingenuity with props like the Mystery Machine and Scooby Snacks.

D’Alexander’s advisory went with a classic Charlie Brown inspired look, which was accompanied by smaller gourds decorated as Woodstock and Snoopy (left). They took the second place ribbon for creativity and aesthetics, out decorating several other Charlie Brown themed pumpkins.

Before reviewing the first place winner for the 2022 Advisory Pumpkin Decorating Competition, here are some honorable mentions.

Plankton
Tom and Jerry

With the fun and original theme of Frosty the Snowman, a tribute to the original movie produced in 1969, James Amato’s advisory soared above expectations, claiming the spot of the 2022 Pumpkin Decorating Contest winners. Everything from the black top hat and pink flower to colored scarf were methodically planned and phenomenally executed. A highlight I personally thought was beyond realistic was the cotton ball material and wood pipe; the placing and attachment mesh together perfectly, creating the wispy illusion of smoke.

Overall, this year’s competition was a success, with several different advisories coming together to create a fun and competitive environment.

“I loved not knowing which advisory would win this year,” stated Nathan Trumbley, a member of Mrs. D’Alexanders senior advisory. “The decorations were next level, and it only increased my eagerness and expectancy.”
