September 9th, 2022, our Woodland girls’ soccer team defeated the Watertown girls’ soccer team by a score of 5-2.
Watertown defended the goal for the first 12 minutes until Daniella Celotto scored a goal assisted by Michaela Gasparri (28:29). In between the minutes of Woodland’s goal, Watertown scored giving the girls a tie game. The offense kept pressuring their defense until the final nine minutes of the first half when Gasparri made a goal assisted by Kyla O’Conner (9:56). Seconds later, Meghan Hartnett kicked a corner kick and Deila Kotsaftis kicked another goal making the score 3-1 (8:48). Unfortunately, Watertown scored a goal at the last second.
Entering the second half with a score of 3-2, both Woodland and Watertown came back ready to fight. For the first eight minutes, Watertown fought to keep Woodland from scoring but ended up giving a goal away. Celotto scored off of Watertown making the score 4-2 (32:39). Woodland’s defense kept up the pressure to drive the ball back up toward the Watertown goal. After eight minutes of pressuring the Watertown goal, Gasparri scored another goal making the score 5-2 (24:3). For the rest of the game, Woodland girls kept up the defense, not letting up a single goal. The final score of the game ended up being 5-2.
