New Years Resolutions

It’s 11:59 on December 31, 2013. The ball is dropping and everyone around you is counting down from ten to one. Another year has gone by and you’re now entering 2014 with new goals and a new mind-set. It’s now 12:02 on January 1, 2014, and everyone has exchanged hugs and said “Happy New Year”. Conversation fills the room with New Year’s Resolutions, but does anyone know how in depth some people’s resolutions are?

As mentioned in Hailey Boris’ “Accomplishing New Year’s Resolutions,” (http://hawkheadlines.net/news/2014/01/17/accomplishing-new-years-resolutions/) the top three New Year’s resolutions are losing weight, getting organized, and spending less money. For high-school students, New Year’s Resolutions include getting better grades, making a sports team, and being more active.

Xavier Gibson, Woodland Freshman, was recently affected by a recent trip to Bermuda when he came across a bad part of town.

“When I was riding the bus in Bermuda I saw young kids on the sidewalk, half clothed and skinny, asking for money when people walked by,” said Gibson. “My New Year’s Resolution is to do more community service.”

With the end of the month quickly approaching, it is interesting to see who has stuck to their New Year’s Resolutions. As January 2014 comes to a close, how many resolutions have you broken?
