There is a New Prospect Mayor Among Us

At the end of this year, billboards will be springing up around Prospect, Connecticut, in support of Prospect resident Abigail Hannus’ mayoral campaign.

Don’t let her age and complete lack of political experience fool you; Abigail “Abby” Hannus is determined to win the votes of Prospect residents with her charms.

“I have always loved to be the center of attention, so if I were to be mayor of Prospect then I would be the center of attention,” she said. “I also love Prospect and everyone in it. I’m an avid Prospectian.”

Hannus’ platform primarily consists of the “jollification” of Prospect.

“Every summer there will be a Bouncy Castle Lollapalooza, with live music, snow cones, and much more available for free to Prospect residents,” Hannus said. “And this is just one of my ideas.”

Confidence is certainly what motivates Hannus to keep her campaign going.

“There is no beginning and there is no end [to the campaign],” she said. “But it officially starts when I turn 18 [October 1st, 2023] and can actually run.”

Hannus isn’t worried about the war between her and her opponents. As far as she’s concerned, there is no competition.

“I know this since I’m cool and qualified enough,” she said.

Hannus attributes her mayoral qualities to the lessons she has learned in advisory throughout high school. Her laughter in advisory really loosens her up and has prepared her to run.

Advisor Tom Feige was initially concerned when Abby announced that she was running for mayor.

“I thought she should walk first before she runs; it’s important to stretch first before you run,” Feige said.

As her advisor, Feige has the most insight on what makes Abby the best fit for the mayoral position. He can attest to her hardworking nature as an exemplary employee at Frankie’s of Waterbury, and her creativity that shines through her contemporary dance moves, namely “The Rocking Horse.”

Feige describes Hannus like an avocado

“Deep down [she’s] strong, like the core of the avocado,” he said.

All Feige wants to see is one of his advisees reach for the moon, because even if she falls short, she’ll still land among the stars.

“I want to see her reach her dreams,” he said. “And then I’ll give her a high five.”

Hannus’ ambitions have inspired other students to pursue their political dreams.

“I see Abby succeeding and think ‘Yo, she’s a demon. That’s fire, I have to try,” said Bryce DiGiovanna, classmate of Hannus.

Hannus plans on making her official campaign theme song “Who Runs the World?” by Beyoncé.

“Girls,” Feige exclaimed when he heard the announcement.

The vast majority of Woodland is buzzing with excitement at the thought of one of their very own students becoming mayor of a town that half of the school calls home. Through her campaign, Hannus redefines what it means to be a Hawk.

And when the time comes, and campaigns flood the local news, remember that there is “a new Prospect mayor among us.”
