Hawks Weekly Sports Recap 3/20-3/25

This past week was the first official full week of spring sports here at the woods. All of our impressive sports teams were in action, each looking to start their hopeful seasons on a positive note.

Baseball

The boys baseball team began the week with consistent practices with the full team. On Thursday, they traveled to Nonnewaug for a scrimmage and fell just short in a very competitive game. The next day however they hosted North Branford in a home scrimmage, and came away with the win. They ended the week with some work in the weight room on Saturday.

Softball

The girls softball team also had a week filled with two scrimmages. Much like the baseball team, they opened the week up with full practices. However, the softball team had their first scrimmage of the season on Wednesday against Brookfield. They were able to come away with the win in an 8 inning thriller. On Friday, they played against Cromwell, the reigning class S state champions. However, the Hawks were unphased and were able to pick up their second scrimmage win of the season.

Outdoor Track

The boys and girls outdoor track team had a full week of practices from Monday to Friday. The team had discipline days on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday where athletes were able to focus on their specific events. On Tuesday and Friday, most athletes took place in speed and hill workouts in an attempt to condition them before the first meet of the season.

Tennis

Both the boys and girls tennis teams this week focused on the team building skills, and learning the basics. The week was filled with much conditioning, which soon led into more in depth skills such as net play and practicing serving. To finish the week, the team began practicing singles and doubles matches.
