Audrey Hepburn’s Beauty Tips

Audrey Hepburn, an admirable 1950 actress, was creative not only on screen, but also with a pen. Hepburn, epitome of beauty, acted as the wealthful, showstopping woman in almost every role she played. Children, teenagers and adults have always looked up to Hepburn as their beauty icon. Hepburn was the stereotypical beauty, someone kids would think was a princess, but not just because of her looks. Hepburn traveled around the world, visiting poor communities and using her wealth to support poverty stricken families.

Aware of her influence, Hepburn wrote a poem responding to what beauty truly is. Instead of admiring physical beauty, the actress highlighted upon inner beauty. Hepburn never released this poem directly, instead she would quote the lines sporadically in interviews and everyday life. These statements would become some of her most famous quotes.

The poem states:

“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone.

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, 

reclaimed, and redeemed; Never throw out anybody.

Remember, If you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of your arm.

As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows, and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!”

Hepburn states throughout the whole poem that beauty is not defined by looks, but rather how one holds oneself. An attitude, like love or kindness, is the most beautiful part of a lady. 

The first five lines of this poem discuss in what ways people can grow their inner beauty. Being kind, spending time with good people, sharing with others, playing with children, and being wise help maintain a positive spirit, noticeable within the eyes, smile and body language. 

Inner beauty is truly what makes one beautiful, according to Hepburn. 

In a 1989 interview with Barbara Walters, an American journalist, Hepburn stated, “I created a look in order to make something of myself.” 

Hepburn claimed that she never truly thought of herself as beautiful, so she was determined to feel beautiful. Being a better person, saying charitable things and creating a signature style are ways she did this. 

Since this poem was released, it has reached the attention of many people. Will this reshape the idea of beauty or will these words be pushed away?
