Hawks Weekly Sports Recap 3/6-3/11

Although most of our winter sports teams’ seasons have come to a close, our beloved boys swim team was in action this week. Despite the end of the exciting winter season for most teams, this time of the year signifies the beginning of the spring sports season; therefore, it is important to look ahead to the highly anticipated spring season here at the Woods, along with recapping this most recent week.

Boys Swimming and Diving

The boys swimming and diving team had state trials this week after a tough week of training. Per usual, the team practiced 1-2 times a day Monday through Friday, all in preparation for trials on Saturday. At trials, the team started off strong getting first place in their medley relay heat. Following this event, the boys team continued swimming consistently well and set themselves up well ahead of state finals next week.

“It was only trials but trials can almost be more important than finals,” said Junior Robert Gugliotti. “The better we do at trials, the higher our potential at finals.”

Spring Season Overview

Spring sports teams are allowed to begin their season promptly on Saturday, March 18th. For starters, both our boys and girls outdoor track teams are looking for redemption in the NVL, after their second place finish last year at the NVL championships. The softball team is looking to defend their NVL and Class S State championship from last year, while our baseball team has high aspirations led by a team filled with upperclassmen. Finally, both or boys and girls tennis teams have many returning players from last year, and are looking forward to yet another successful year on the courts.
