Athlete Spotlight: Chase Starzman

A strong team needs a strong captain and for the Woodland swim team that role has been filled with honor by Chase Starzman, the only junior captain.

Since the first day of practice, Starzman has been a model swimmer and a mentor for young swimmers. As the team approaches their NVLs championship, a captain is needed to support the team in any way possible and Starzman has proved he is capable of doing just that.

“Coach gave me a chance that has really helped me and the team grow morale,” said Starzman.

While he never saw himself as a leader, Starzman has noticed his impact on the team and is living up to the expectations of a leader.

“They all kind of look up to me, I guess. They ask a lot of questions and I always try my best to answer them,” said Starzman.

Starzman started gaining his swim knowledge at the beginning of his career with the Long River Middle School team. The past five years have set him up to be a fantastic leader. Always striving to do his best and keeping  others motivated are characteristics that make him a great captain.

Starzman is excited to see where the rest of the season takes his teammates.

“I always do my best everyday and try to help out where I can.”
