Honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Our Community

During October, many schools and organizations have been raising awareness for breast cancer through pink outs, fundraisers, 5k’s and much more.

According to the National Cancer Institute, cancer is the second most leading cause of death in the United States and for breast cancer specifically, every one in thirty nine women will die from it. Breast cancer can be shown as a large mass or lump in breast tissue, usually hard, oddly shaped, some are painless.

On Friday, October 21st, Woodland held a pink out themed football game where students, faculty, and family wore pink to raise awareness for the cause. The cheer team wore pink tutus and useds pink pom poms, the dance team wore pink shirts and bows and the football team wore pink arm and wrist bands, some players even had pink shirts underneath their jerseys.

Football is not the only sport that had a pink out. On Friday, October 14th, volleyball also supported bread cancer awareness during their pink out game by wearing pink Woodland Volleyball t-shirts.

In addition to the pink out games, on Friday October 27th Woodland had a school wide pink out and class of 2025 raised money by selling breast cancer bracelets during all three lunch waves. All the proceeds made were donated to Seymour Pink; an organization that raises money through fundraisers to fund breast cancer research while uniting the community.

Not only does Seymour Pink unite Seymour, but also the towns around to come together to fight against breast cancer.
