Athlete Spotlight: Dylan Burkowsky

Dylan Burkowsky, Woodland swim and dive team senior captain, is a very committed swimmer. With dedication and perseverance Burkowsky is at the top of her game.

As an endurance swimmer Burkowsky swims the 200 and 500 freestyle.

“I am a distance swimmer. I cannot imagine myself doing anything else.”

Even though swimming is Burkowsky’s top choice in regards to the sporting world she has tried others in the past.

“I always liked swimming. When I was younger, I went through a whole bunch of sports. I played soccer and basketball for a while. I never really enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed swimming.”

During her years of swimming, Burkowsky has made many friendships from the team and loves how close everyone is.

She has made some long term friendships from the team and feels as though the team is close in every way. Burkowsky is looking forward to having fun in her last season and excited for meets against Seymour, Naugatuck and Weston.

“It is my last season and swim meets are always the best part of any season. It’s a lot of work but it pays off. If you stick to it, you keep going and put the work in. It is so rewarding to see how you improved at the end of the season.”

Swimming in high school has changed Burkowsky’s high school experience and has taught her many life lessons.

“To be able  to work through all the challenges that I have experienced across the way just has taught me such important life lessons that I feel like I will carry with me forever.”
