Freshman Basketball Team Encouraged by Teamwork and Determination

Woodland’s freshmen basketball team has learned a lot during their first season playing the game they love. They learned that winning is not always the goal and that building a cohesive team is one of the most important aspects of playing basketball and doing well.

“Over the season, we got better and worked together,” said Cory Murphy, freshman basketball player.

Collaboration, a key skill to improve upon when challenging a player’s performance, is used by the team in order to fix mistakes on the court.

“We fix our mistakes and apply it to our game,” said Tyler DeCrescenzo, a member of the team.

Trusting each other as teammates encourages better performance and gameplay. Not only to think in the moment, but also think three steps ahead.

High school creates a different environment for not only students but also teammates. With this being their first season, time is needed to adapt to your new teammates.

“It was awkward before we knew how to play with each other,” said Murphy. “Over time we began to play as a team.”

Murphy also knows that learning to push towards one goal will lead to new accomplishments of the team as a whole. This will teach them new skills to learn in the future.

“We can always be better than what we were.”
