Woodland’s Take on Super Bowl ’22

It is Super Bowl time, which is the marking of a bittersweet point of the season for NFL fans. After an exciting season, only one game remains to determine the 2021-2022 NFL champion. Since there are more than seven months between the Super Bowl and next season, it is common that passionate fans of the NFL view the game as the last hurrah. This leads to the excitement and emotion that comes with the Super Bowl for both the players and fans.

This year, the Super Bowl is featuring the Cincinnati Bengals, representing the AFC, and the Los Angeles Rams, representing the NFC. The first Super Bowl since 2016 without either Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes is bound to be a thrilling and electrifying game. Cincinnati is led by second year quarterback Joe Burrow, accompanied by high powered wide receivers Ja’marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Burrow and Chase were college teammates at Louisiana State University (LSU), and won the National Championship with the team in 2019. They will both look to add a Super Bowl win to their respective résumés. With a solid defense featuring Jessie Bates and Sam Hubbard, this young team is thriving this season and will look to continue their dominance in years to come.

The team battling Cincinnati will be the Los Angeles Rams; despite a Super Bowl Appearance in 2019, LA is now led by Quarterback Matthew Stafford, playing in his 13th season. This is Stafford’s first season as a Ram, as he spent his previous 12 with the Detroit Lions. Stafford is joined by wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who is having one of the seasons for a wide receiver in the history of the NFL. Running back Cam Akers, and wide receivers Odell Becham Jr. and Van Jefferson are all key factors on the Los Angeles offense. On the defensive side of the ball, LA has several distinguished veterans such as Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, and Von Miller. It is safe to say that both the Bengals and Rams have what it takes to be Super Bowl Champions, making for an incredible matchup.

A recent poll of one hundred and forty Woodland Regional High School students was able to reveal who the school thought would win the Super Bowl. The Cincinnati Bengals received 76% of the vote, while the Los Angeles Rams received 26% of the vote. Sophomore, and member of the Woodland Football Team, Matthew Petta is part of the 76% that believes the Bengals will win the big game.

“Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense is too strong for the Rams defense.”

No matter who comes out on top, the game is sure to provide the thrill and excitement that it does each and every year. So football fans, glue yourself to the TV at 6:00 pm on February 13th, to view the final game of the 2021-2022 NFL season.
